HMS Curriculum Fellowship Opportunity

Harvard Medical School’s Curriculum Fellows Program (CFP) is pleased to announce a full-time position for a Curriculum Fellow (CF) to provide curricular and programmatic support for the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium (LCBC). This CF position represents an exciting opportunity to work with faculty from across Harvard Medical School and its affiliated hospitals to help Harvard PhD students develop into the next leaders in cancer research.

The Curriculum Fellows Program is a postdoctoral service and training program focused on curriculum development, teaching, and educational programming in the biological and biomedical sciences. CurriculumFellows work closely with members of the HMS faculty and administration to develop, deploy, and evaluate evidence-based graduate training. Fellows also receive mentorship and career advising to support their development as educators and help them succeed in a variety of education-focused careers.

The primary responsibility of the Curriculum Fellow for the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium will be to manage and support the academic and professional development components of a training program in cancer biology that spans Harvard Medical School, Harvard University, and at the Harvard-affiliated teaching hospitals.

Responsibilities include:

·         Develop materials and assessments and manage course content for two graduate level quarter courses in cancer biology. 

·         Develop additional multidisciplinary LCBC classes; including quarter courses, nanocourses and an intense ‘bootcamp’ style hands-on laboratory training course.

·         Develop, implement, and support symposia, recruitment events, and other opportunities for the Landry Cancer Biology PhD training program and its students.

·         Provide administrative support for the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium and the associated training program, including the preparation of annual reports for University stakeholders and interfacing with the development office and Landry family representatives.

Qualifications, job skills, and competencies:

·         Ph.D. in a field relevant to cancer biology

·         Prior experience or demonstrated interest in teaching

·         Outstanding writing and organizational skills, strict attention to detail and timelines

·         Demonstrated capacity for independence, perseverance, and innovation, as well as the ability to work as part of a team

·         Project or program management skills

·         Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, student leaders, and administrative partners distributed across multiple campuses

The CF appointment is renewable annually for a maximum of three years and is non-tenure-track. Postdoctoral research experience is relevant, but not required. The fellowship is intended for early-career scientist-educators, therefore applications from candidates with more than 5 years of postdoctoral research or teaching experience are discouraged. Fellows are appointed as research associates, with possible promotion to the rank of Lecturer, contingent on experience and performance. The ideal start date for the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium Curriculum Fellow in is on or before August 1, 2019 at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. Candidates will be interviewed by phone or Skype before selections are made for on-campus interviews. The review of applications will begin Monday, July 1st, 2019.
